Tra questi potrai scegliere i convenzionali FLV e AVI per i video con risoluzione standard (320x240) e i formati MP4 (480x320, compatibile con iPhone e iPod touch) e AVI HD (1280x720) per i filmati in alta risoluzione.

YouTube Downloader HD funziona bene e non presenta nessuna difficoltà d'uso. Peccato però che non supporti il download da altri siti oltre YouTube.

Il panorama dei programmi di conversione video è sterminato. Ce ne sono di estremamente tecnici, come MediaCoder, di adatti ad una particolare periferica di riproduzione video, come PSP Video 9, e svariati altri.

Koyote Free Video Converter appartiene alla categoria "facili da usare", anche se ultimamente sul mercato sono uscite alternative migliori come l'ottimo e gratuito Freemake Video Converter. Per usarlo si selezionano uno o più filmati da convertire, un formato d'uscita, ed eventualmente si modificano alcuni parametri, come la risoluzione dell'immagine o il numero di canali audio. Tutto dalla stessa finestra e senza complicazioni.

Tra i formati d'uscita Koyote Free Video Converter offre anche alcune configurazioni predefinite per dispositivi diffusi, come iPhone o PSP. Dalla finestra principale è inoltre possibile vedere un'anteprima del video, anche durante l'operazione di conversione. Tutto qui. Del resto, se così non fosse, Koyote Free Video Converter non apparterrebbe alla categoria "facili da usare".

Il tuo compito in Angry Birds è scagliare gli uccelli arrabbiati, tramite una gigantesca fionda, contro gli arroganti maiali, disintegrandone i ridicoli rifugi dalle improbabili architetture e riducendo le bestiacce in un cumulo di lugàneghe. Man mano che progredisci con i livelli di Angry Birds, ognuno diverso, hai a disposizione sempre più uccelli, ognuno dei quali ha una diversa arma segreta che devi utilizzare più efficacemente possibile.

Angry Birds nasce (e spopola) su piattaforma iPhone, e finalmente, ora, è disponibile anche per PC. È un gioco che da una parte rilassa, dall'altra stuzzica il senso di sfida, perché l'uccello, per vincere, deve usare a volte l'astuzia, a volte la forza bruta, a volte la tenacia. Inoltre è adatto veramente a tutti. Non avere questo gioco sarebbe un vero peccato. E scoprirai che i pur numerosissimi livelli a disposizione in Angry Birds per PC non sono poi così tanti.

Bearshare è il software giusto per essere iniziati al mondo del file sharing. È semplice da usare e ti soddisfa subito con una buona velocità di download. Ma appena diventerai più esperto non ti resterà che abbandonarlo per eMule o LimeWire

Viene sempre il giorno in cui hai bisogno urgente di un file. Un?immagine, un video, un file audio. La gran quantità di risorse messe a disposizione in rete può aiutarti in tempi brevi. Quello che occorre è un?applicazione peer-to-peer (P2P), per condividere e scambiare file con altri utenti.

Bearshare appartiene a questa categoria e, se non ti sei mai accostato prima d?ora al fantastico mondo del file sharing, è quello che fa per te. Infatti, in barba ai popolarissimi eMule e LimeWire, è il preferito tra i principianti per la sua interfaccia essenziale e intuitiva. Aggiungi che, mentre eMule impiega dalle quattro alle dieci ore dall'avvio per scalare le code e iniziare a scaricare con una velocità soddisfacente, con Bearshare inizi a scaricare subito e in tempi dignitosi, anche senza mettere nulla in condivisione. Se non hai fretta, tuttavia, ricorda che dopo aver scalato le code è molto più rapido eMule, anche nella ricerca dei file.

Ciò che convince meno di Bearshare è il suo tipo di licenza adware, che ti fa sorbire fastidiosi pop-up pubblicitari un po? troppo spesso. Un altro limite è che con Bearshare potrai cercare solo file MP3, MPEG, AVI, ASF, MOV, JPEG, GIF e OGG. In particolare, va bene se devi cercare file musicali.

Poche le funzionalità che differenziano Bearshare dai concorrenti: contiene un filtro per bloccare contenuti per adulti e un sistema di monitorizzazione delle cartelle condivise per impedire intrusioni indesiderate. Inoltre, una funzione interessante ti permette di connetterti direttamente ai PC di altri amici per scaricare file molto più velocemente.

Cerchi un programma tuttofare? Freecorder è capace di eseguire il download di video e audio da Youtube, Facebook, DailyMotion, MySpace e Break.com, di convertire file multimediali e di riprodurre radio e TV. Consigliato a chi ama le toolbar, altrimenti meglio optare per altre soluzioni.

Una volta installato Freecorder, per scaricare un filmato non devi far altro che premere l?icona con la freccia verde e selezionare la qualità di uscita e uno tra i tre formati disponibili: FLV, MP4 e WebM.

Se dopo vuoi convertire il file in un altro formato video o in audio, devi cliccare sull?icona con la pellicola nella toolbar di Freecorder per salvare il file, e premere su salva come video o MP3. Per eseguire la conversione devi invece premere sul pulsante con le due frecce.

Un?altra funzione interessante di Freecorder è quella che ti permette di registrare l?audio riprodotto sul tuo PC, che si tratti di un video di Youtube o di un file musicale riprodotto in locale, sempre attraverso un?icona sulla toolbar.

Ecco lo schema di un classico momento tragicomico della nostra vita social: ti svegli una mattina, apri Facebook e nel tuo profilo improvvisamente ti ritrovi con un amico in meno. Panico. Le tue ansie adolescenziali di accettazione sociale tornano vive e drammatiche come ai tempi del muretto. Qualcuno non ti vuole più bene, ma chi? Tieni a bada le paranoie: usa Unfriend Finder, script per Firefox che permette di scoprire chi ti ha depennato dalla effimera lista di "amici" di Facebook.

Per utilizzare Unfriend Finder hai bisogno di avere installato su Firefox Greasemonkey, per il resto non dovrai fare nulla. Unfriend Finder si integra nella tua finestra di Facebook e aggiunge alcune voci al menu, tra cui la temutissima "Ex Amici". A quel punto, ogni volta che qualcuno ti cancella apparirà un avviso, con tanto di data e ora del lugubre evento. Per il passato però niente da fare, Unfriend Finder non è retroattivo (prova l'arte del perdono).

Con Unfriend Finder potrai controllare anche le tue richieste di amicizia e ricevere un avviso quando qualcuno cancella definitivamente la tua richiesta. In italiano, gratuita e facile da usare, questo script di Firefox ha davvero pochi difetti. Non serve avere un'autostima di ferro per usare Unfriend Finder, ma di certo aiuta. La verità, a volte, può far male...

Avant Browser è un'alternativa ai soliti Internet Explorer, Firefox e Opera. Nonostante la sua scarsa diffusione lo releghi alla categoria dei browser minori, non è privo di opzioni tipiche dei browser più famosi. Avant Browser è basato sul motore di Internet Explorer, il che in parole povere significa che visualizza le pagine web come il software di Microsoft. Di sicuro un bel vantaggio, essendo tantissimi i siti ottimizzati per Internet Explorer.

Tra le funzionalità più interessanti, Avant Browser offre un sistema di memorizzazione online del proprio profilo, le gesture del mouse, un lettore di feed RSS e altro ancora. Ma probabilmente ciò che ci ha colpito di più è la rapida modifica delle impostazioni di sicurezza. Con un click sull'icona del programma nella tray di sistema o sul menu strumenti è possibile bloccare pop-up, immagini, suoni filmati, script e ActiveX.

Al di là di questo Avant Browser è un moderno strumento per navigare su Internet, con supporto per la visualizzazione a schede (tab), una comoda gestione dei preferiti e l'auto completamento automatico di campi testuali. Purtroppo manca un degno download manager. Quello che usa non supporta nemmeno il resume dei file.

USBDeview è un interessante strumento che ti consente di vedere quali dispositivi USB sono o sono stati in uso nel tuo PC. L'applicazione ti mostra una lista con lo storico delle periferiche USB installate.

Per ogni elemento indica nome, descrizione, tipologia (periferica di archiviazione, audio, Bluetooth, e così via), data di primo utilizzo, e altro ancora. Inoltre può indicarti se in quel preciso istante il dispositivo USB elencato è connesso o no al computer.

Dall'interfaccia del programma potrai anche disconnettere o disinstallare i dispositivi USB di cui non hai più bisogno. USBDeview permette infine di generare e salvare un report dettagliato sugli elementi installati trovati. USBDeview è in inglese, ma sul sito del produttore puoi trovare un plugin per tradurlo in italiano.

Cette nouvelle version de Magix Digital Photo Maker est un programme plus complet que jamais pour gérer votre photothèque comme bon vous semble. Pas indispensable mais tellement confortable.

Le générateur de mondes par défaut de Minecraft offre une grande variété de décors (déserts, montagnes enneigées, hauts plateaux, etc). Un nouveau monde a également été ajouté à Minecraft. Son nom: The Slip. L'environnement fait énormément pensé à l'Enfer. De nombreux monstres s'y côtoient, le tout enrobé de lave. Pour y accéder, vous devrez construire un portail fait de roches obsidiennes.

L'ambiance sonore de Minecraft n'est pas des plus travaillées et si vous êtes allergiques aux blocs de pixels, ce n'est pas un jeu pour vous. Minecraft est un jeu au scénario infini incroyablement innovant. Son qualificatif de sandbox est largement mérité car les uniques freins à cette simulation sont le temps et votre imagination.

Audials Tunebite ne recèle aucune difficulté d'utilisation. Son interface se divise en plusieurs parties permettant chacune une action bien précise: convertir des fichiers audio, enregistrer ce qui se passe à l'écran ou le son qui passe par la carte son, faire sauter les DRM d'un MP3, un livre audio ou d'un DVD.

Audials Tunebite connaît les formats compatibles avec plusieurs plate-formes de lecture, tels certains modèles de téléphone portables (BlackBerry, iPhone, etc) pour mieux adapter le format de conversion à ces derniers.

Il suffit de faire glisser vos morceaux musicaux dans la première partie avant de choisir un format de conversion parmi ceux proposés (WMV, MP4, AVI, 3GP). En cliquant sur le bouton "Démarrer", la conversion se fait automatiquement.

Dans la partie de droite d'Audials Tunebite, vous avez un aperçu de vos nouveaux morceaux. La navigation est aisée et il est possible de zoomer et dézoommer à volonté sur les objets célestes qui vous intéressent. Côté graphismes, en revanche OpenUniverse n'est pas particulièrement réussi. Les planètes sont assez pixellisées et les animations bégaient un tantinet.

Un projet intéressant qui s'adresse à tous les amateurs d'exploration spatiale et aux enseignants.

Sorti 6 mois avant Google Earth, ce concurrent proposé par la NASA pèche par la qualité de certaines de ses images, par un niveau de zoom bon mais qui devient vite surchargé en informations et une moteur de recherche capricieux.

On apprécie cependant le volume important de données disponible ainsi que la possibilité de s'approcher très (très) près de la lune!

ALLPlayer at first seems like any other free media player - it can play multiple formats, supports subtitles, is lightweight etc.

However, the interesting thing about ALLPlayer is that it features something called "IQ Text" which analyzes the length of subtitles, keeping them displayed on the screen for long enough so that you can read everything. It can also "speak" subtitles which is a great feature for kids learning another language although apart from that, I can't see much use for it. The voices predictably however are very robotic and stilted. In addition, ALLPlayer has an interesting "Desktop mode" which allows you to play the video as if it were part of your wallpaper.

To cap it all, it can also retrieve subtitles automatically from Opensubtitles.org although this is the poorest performing part of ALLPlayer. The subtitles it retrieves are often either wrong, don't work or it doesn't retrieve them at all. Apart from that, ALLPlayer is pretty much like any other free media player although it's elegant and easy to use to boot and like all good players, you can also change the skins.

Compact and great for subtitling, ALLPlayer definitely brings something new to the player market and if you rely on subtitles, you should definitely give it a try.

Glary Utilities is an excellent toolkit includes a handful of system utilities that enable you to tweak, repair, optimize and improve your system's performance. Tools are conveniently categorized so that you can quickly find what you're looking for: disk cleaner, uninstall manager, memory optimizer, file shredder, duplicates finder, tracks eraser... just about any tool you need.

All the tools included in Glary Utilities are generally very intuitive and in case they make important changes to the system (like the Registry repairing tool) Glary Utilities creates a backup copy first.

Not all the tools included in Glary Utilities include configuration settings, something we missed in some of them such as the Disk cleaner. Also, we would like to have a Firefox Assistant, the same way the program includes an Internet Explorer Assistant.

Leggero ed immediato, Easy Photo Effects ti permette di applicare effetti alle foto in pochi click. Basta selezionare l'immagine e poi scegliere il filtro tra i tanti a disposizione, come Black & White, Sepia, Movie (che corrisponde al celebre effetto Lomo), Tilt Shift e tanti altri. Di ogni filtro puoi regolare i parametri tramite il pulsante Settings.

Nessun grande mistero con Easy Photo Effects: la modifica delle immagini è davvero intuitiva nonostante il programma sia solo in inglese. Una volta terminato, ti basterà cliccare su Save per salvare l'immagine (in JPG o BMP). Più semplice di così, impossibile.

Peccato solo che una volta applicato un filtro non si possa rimuovere a meno di non cliccare su Reset Image (cosa che però elimina tutti gli effetti applicati e non solo l'ultimo). Nel complesso Easy Photo Effects rimane comunque un'applicazione utile, anche se destinata prevalentemente a utenti poco esperti.

VMware è uno dei capisaldi nel campo della virtualizzazione. Se il concetto ti è nuovo, sappi che ciò significa poter installare e usare dei sistemi operativi all'interno di un'area predefinita del tuo Windows. Questa soluzione ti consente di lavorare, per esempio, con Windows e Linux contemporaneamente, o con due versioni differenti del sistema operativo di casa Microsoft, il tutto senza alcun conflitto, senza necessità di creare una partizione diversa, un dual boot e tutto quello che comporta l'installazione fisica di un secondo sistema operativo.

Con VMware Workstation la macchina virtuale (guest) viene usata attraverso una normale finestra del sistema reale (host), che puoi adattare in grandezza o visualizzare a tutto schermo. Molto comoda la possibilità di effettuare il drag and drop dei file tra host e guest, e l'opportunità di condividere cartelle tra i due sistemi. In più, l'ottimo Snapshot Manager di VMware Workstation ti consentirà di creare e gestire con grande facilità i punti di ripristino per la macchina virtuale.

L'interfaccia di VMware Workstation è in inglese, e questo potrebbe scoraggiare i meno pratici in fase di configurazione, specialmente con le funzioni avanzate dell'applicazione. VMWare Workstation permette poi di impostare a fondo ogni aspetto: dal quantitativo di memoria RAM e video assegnati al sistema guest, alle modalità di condivisione della connessione di rete, fino alle funzioni legate al controllo remoto, al cloning della macchina virtuale e così via.

VMware Workstation è senza dubbio una delle soluzioni più all'avanguardia per virtualizzare un sistema operativo, ma è un programma che pur non trascurando l'utente medio (il wizard è ben fatto ma migliorabile), strizza l'occhio soprattutto ad un'utenza avanzata o professionale, anche per via del costo della licenza, superiore a quella di un comune software.

VMWare Workstation non è l'unico programma di questo genere: esistono però alternative valide e gratuite come l'ottimo VirtualBox, che probabilmente ha qualche funzione avanzata in meno, ma una maggiore semplicità d'uso e l'interfaccia in italiano.

Windows 7 è un sistema operativo che offre infinite possibilità di personalizzazione, ma non sempre questi setting sono facilmente raggiungibili dall'utente medio. Windows 7 Manager riunisce in un'unica applicazione tutti gli strumenti necessari per plasmare Seven a tua immagine e somiglianza (o quasi).

L'interfaccia di Windows 7 Manager, ti avviso, è poco invitante e ti ci vorrà un po' prima di raccapezzarti tra le diverse aree: Information, Optimizer, Cleaner, Customization, Security, Network e Miscellaneous Utilities. In pratica puoi fare un po' di tutto: deframmentare, gestire i processi e i servizi, eliminare archivi superflui, disinstallare applicazioni, avere informazioni sull'hardware e sulla velocità del sistema, ritoccare la grafica e tanto altro ancora.

Se temi di fare danni, no problem: Windows 7 Manager ti offre la possibilità di creare un punto di ripristino prima di iniziare a smanettare. Nonostante sia organizzato per tab, il programma è comunque ancora abbastanza caotico e a volte l'informazione mostrata è poco leggibile. Per il resto è un ottimo programma, speriamo quindi in un'interfaccia più chiara nelle prossime release!

Cos'è e come funziona VanBasco Karaoke Player
VanBasco è un player karaoke di file MIDI, ti permette cioè di cantare su una base musicale seguendo le parole che scorrono sullo schermo del computer.
Gratis, contiene un motore di ricerca interno con tantissime basi ma è in grado anche di aprire file di tipo Kar.
Puoi creare playlist, regolare tempo, tono e volume dei brani e personalizzare l'aspetto del programma con le skin. L'interfaccia è piuttosto datata e non include un editor audio, ma rimane un must delle serate karaoke.

Il funzionamento è semplicissimo. Una volta eseguito il download ti basta avviare il programma e troverai l'interfaccia principale.

Le cinque finestre principali di VanBasco

Finestra principale: Permette di gestire la riproduzione dei brani, il play, la messa in pausa. Da questa finestra puoi accedere in ogni momento alle altre quattro.

Finestra Karaoke: Qui trovi il testo del brano da cantare. Le parole cambieranno di colore a ritmo con la musica. Puoi impostare il numero di righe di testo da visualizzare (da 1 a 4), il carattere e il colore del font e dello sfondo. Puoi anche personalizzare la finestra con un'immagine presa dal tuo computer.

Finestra Controlli: Ti permette di impostare il tempo, la tonalità e il volume del brano in riproduzione. Se vuoi, puoi salvare queste impostazioni in un preset per ritrovarle a un secondo accesso al programma.

L'esperimento di Vassal Engine è interessante e ambizioso: creare un'applicazione che faccia la funzione di una console virtuale, in cui puoi caricare tutti i giochi da tavolo e di carte che vuoi.

Il bello è che sia il programma-contenitore che i giochi sono gratis. Nel momento in cui scriviamo questa recensione, i moduli scaricabili dal sito dell'autore sono quasi 900. Il che significa che hai a disposizione praticamente qualunque gioco ti venga in mente.

L'aspetto ancora più interessante del progetto Vassal è l'opzione di gioco online, tramite il classico meccanismo delle stanze comuni. Se vuoi farti una partita a Warhammer 40.000 ma a casa non hai nessuno interessato a menar le mani, puoi andare alla ricerca di nemici in Rete.

Per ora i giocatori che si avvalgono di questa opzione non sono molti, ma col tempo è facile ipotizzare che la comunità crescerà, specialmente considerando il fatto che Vassal è multipiattaforma.

Le critiche che si possono muovere a Vassal sono due: non ci sono ancora molti utenti in rete e la grafica è piuttosto antiquata. Ciononostante è un esperimento coinvolgente, che merita almeno una prova.

Se cerchi musica da scaricare gratis sul PC, sappi che dall'interfaccia di Songr Portable potrai cercare e scaricare file MP3 (purché, logicamente, non coperti da diritto d'autore) usando oltre dieci motori di ricerca tematici contemporaneamente. Tra i canali di ricerca è incluso YouTube, dal quale potrai scaricare interi video in formato MPEG, AVI, o la sola traccia audio in MP3.

Songr Portable permette la riproduzione delle canzoni selezionate o il download delle medesime sul tuo computer. Purtroppo non è inclusa alcuna funzione di resume per i download in pausa o interrotti, ma resta nel complesso un'applicazione assolutamente da provare.

Miranda IM è uno dei più versatili client di messaggistica istantanea. Supporta praticamente tutti i protocolli esistenti e grazie a un comodo sistema di plug-in può essere personalizzato completamente. Leggero e gratuito

Se hai un computer non troppo potente e molti client di messaggistica istantanea lo rallentano, Miranda IM è la soluzione perfetta. È leggero (può essere installato anche su un misero floppy disk) e compatibile con un'infinità di protocolli: ICQ, MSN, Yahoo! Messenger, AIM, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, Facebook, Tlen, Netsend sono tutti compatibili. Magari mancano alcune funzionalità avanzate, ma puoi star certo che l'essenziale (scambio di messaggi di testo) è pienamente supportato.

Miranda IM comunque non ti obbliga a installare tutti questi protocolli. Sono infatti gestiti come plugin. In fase di installazione puoi scegliere quali tra i principali installare, ma anche in un secondo momento puoi aggiungerli o rimuoverli rapidamente. Esistono inoltre un'infinità di altri componenti aggiuntivi con cui personalizzare qualsiasi aspetto di Miranda IM: interfaccia, icone, suoni, funzionalità, storico dei messaggi e molto, molto altro ancora. Non tutti funzionano alla perfezione però. Si tratta di software in gran parte sviluppato da appassionati, per tanto non si può certo pretendere che tutto fili sempre liscio. Ciò nonostante vale la pena provare: le potenzialità di Miranda IM sono praticamente infinite.
